Objective and Subjective Claims

An objective claim does not need anyone's opinion to make it true or false. On the other hand, a subjective claim invokes personal standards, meaning that the claim is true or false depending on someone's opinion. Since the super bowl is this sunday, I will use the 2009 Indianapolis Colts as my example. A subjective claim about the colts would be to say that " The Colts are the best team in the NFL". This is subjective because it depends on other people's opinions. Many people might think the New Orleans Saints are the best team because they are also in the super bowl. Others may believe that neither of those two teams are the best, it all depends on their opinion. An objective claim about the Colts would be to say that " The Colts had the best record in the NFL during the 2009 regular season" This is objective because it doesn't depen on what someone thinks. It is a fact that the Colts' 14-2 record was the best in the league during the 2009 regular season.

  1. I agree with your response. More or less because your definitions of a subjective claim and objective claim were relatively similar to my own. You also used really good examples to show that you knew what you were talking about. You made your descriptions of what a objective claim and also your subjective claim really clear and to the point. I also like how you used the upcoming super bowl for your examples of both claims since it is to do with what is going on right now and many people will be able to relate to what you are talking about.

  2. I like your examples of subjective and objective claims. I could clearly understand what made something subjective or objective. I think someone saying the Colts are the best team in the NFL is definitely subjective because it gives no reason or information behind the claim. It's left open to be interpreted so many different ways. For example, that person's reason could be because they have the best team colors in the NFL and someone could interpret it as they are the best players in the NFL or that they have the best location in the NFL. When something is left open to so much interpretation it is definitely subjective.

  3. Your definitions of subjective and objective claims are spot on. I agree with your objective claim definition stating that it doesn't matter if it is true or false because objective claims are based solely on opinions. I would have to disagree with your subjective claim. I don't think anyone thinks the Saints are the better team except for the people in New Orleans. Using the upcoming Super Bowl as an example was really good. Most people can relate to and it is current. I guess we will be able to make a subjective claim on who is the best team in the NFL after tomorrow's game. Go Team Manning.
